The extension of national accounts to covereconomic natural assets and their services(incorporated into commodities) is important butcannot deliver a sufficiently complete vision ofthe interaction of people and nature. For example,an enterprise holding and managing a forest willknow and care about trees and timber, but muchless about non-timber forest values, or forest waterregulating functions and micro-climate effects whichmay be highly important for other sectors of societyand for biodiversity.
