In addition to the traditional FFS Medicare or MedicareManaged Care (MMC) insurance, many elderly buy supplementalinsurance policies to cover prescription drugsor catastrophic expenses. These supplemental policies areknown as MediGap plans, because they help fill gaps inthe available health insurance coverage. Some Medicarebeneficiaries are dual eligibles – covered by both Medicare(health insurance for the aged) and Medicaid (healthinsurance for the poor with chronic disabilities or endstagerenal disease).
